TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Joko Anwar’s Gundala will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and vie for the festival’s People’s Choice Award among other respectable movies set to be screened there, such as the long-awaited Joker, Radioactive, and Knives Out.
“This proves that in terms of standards, the movie Gundala has received international acclaim,” said Gundala’s director Joko Anwar in a press release on Friday, August 9.
Anwar’s take on the Indonesian classic superhero character is set to screen nationwide in Indonesia starting on August 29th.
“[Gundala] will be the only Southeast Asian film screened in the [Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness] program,” the press release stated.
This year’s Toronto Film Festival will also screen the movie from the Japanese legend Takashi Miike and Nicolas Cage’s latest movie.
Gundala is starred by Abimana Aryasatya, Tara Basro, Bront Palarae, Muzakki Ramdhan, and Ario Bayu. Produced by Bumilangit Studios in tandem with Legacy Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment. The Toronto Film Festival is set to be held from September 5 to September 15.
