TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said there was no discussion about 2024 general elections during a meeting with the chairman of NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, on Wednesday, July 24.
“We talk more about Jakarta,” said Anies in Hotel Grand Sahid Jaya, Jakarta, Thursday, July 25. He asserted that he only focused on matters related to Jakarta and discussed it with Surya Paloh.
Previously reported, the governor visited the party headquarters on Wednesday at 11:40 and met Surya Paloh over lunch. The meeting lasted for two hours until 13:56 Jakarta time.
After the meeting, Surya stated that Anies had a potential to run in the 2024 presidential election, yet he suggested Anies to optimize his potential as Jakarta Governor.
The statement was considered as a kind of support for Anies in the next election.
The party secretary-general Johnny G. Plate clarified that a possibility to endorse Anies as a presidential candidate in 2024 was too early to be discussed. Even the president-elect in 2019 presidential election has yet to be inaugurated.
