TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police are hunting down Saefullah a.k.a. Daniel a.k.a. Chaniago, member of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) terrorist group. The authorities believe the man to be one of the treasurers of JAD, in charge of managing the group's finances in Indonesia.
Police Headquarters' chief of information bureau Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo said that their latest intelligence hinted that Saefullah is in Khurasan, Afganistan. He is now on the Indonesian Police's most wanted list.
"He is the controller—the mastermind. He is on Densus 88's most wanted list and we believe he is now in Khurasan, Afganistan, after ISIS' loss in Syria," Dedi said in Jakarta, July 23.
According to Dedi, the Densus 88 anti-terror squad is collaborating with other nations' authorities including Malaysia, the Philippines, Afghanistan, Australia, and the United States to hunt down and arrest Saefullah.
The police said that Saefullah has with him over Rp400 million in cash, given by 12 other JAD members in five countries. The money was wired through Western Union.
"We tracked down fund transfers from Trinidad and Tobago, the Maldives, Venezuela, Germany, and Malaysia. They were all received by Saefullah," Dedi said.
