TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Gesikan Yogyakarta Sunan Kalijaga Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) said that the protest that was held at the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) potentially annuls a Muslim’s good deeds during the Holy month Ramadan.
“Activities that can ruin, eliminate the value of one’s fasting must be abandoned, especially considering that fasting itself is a major jihad,” said Beny Susanto, Sunan Kalijaga Gesikan Yogyakarta supervisor in a press release on Sunday, May 12.
He gave multiple examples of the acts conducted by the protestors in the Bawaslu rally on May 10, such as the degrading statements the crowd made toward police members who were securing the rally.

Beny called for 2019 general elections participants, campaign teams, and supporters to report any of their findings of possible elections fraud to the agencies that handle cases of elections violations. He said that this is better than holding rallies.
“The rally held at the Bawaslu is not a jihad that was also proven to potentially ruin someone’s sanctity of one’s fasting. A constitutional jihad is done by reporting the alleged violations to the Bawaslu and adheres to the existing law,” said Beny.
