MRT Jakarta Surpasses Target of 65,000 Passengers

4 April 2019 23:07 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPT MRT Jakarta announced it has surpassed the target of 65,000 passengers since its first day of commercial operation.

MRT Jakarta Head of Corporate Secretary Division, Muhammad Kamaluddin, said that the first Indonesian subway nicknamed Ratangga boarded by 70,000 passengers per day.

"On the second-day, the number of passengers reaches 70,000, and during yesterday’s holiday up to 80,000 passengers," said Kamaluddin when contacted on April 4, 2019.

According to him, people living in Jakarta and its surrounding areas highly enthusiastic to board MRT even on the commercial operation. "That shows a positive trend. The public interest in boarding MRT doesn't decrease even after the tariff is taken effect," Kamaluddin  added.

Additionally, there was no public complaint regarding the train service during the national holiday on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Passengers easily access the train gate without a hitch. Moreover, the MRT arrived on time with a ten-minute headway as previously designed.

"Since the first operation, there is no case related to passengers’ safety. All is going well," Kamaluddin said, adding that the MRT Jakarta did not receive complaints from elderly and disabled people also.

For a whole month of the commercial operation, MRT Jakarta offers 50 percent discount of ticket fare, and normal tariff will be valid afterward in May.
