TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party Deputy Edhy Prabowo admitted the Pandu Bangsa March often played in the party’s official events is inspired by the rhythms in Venceremos. The party’s march became viral after internet commenters linked the march to the Chilean Communist Party.
“We took the rhythm from Venceremos, and it is a plain coincidence. We thought that the tone was encouraging and motivated Party members,” said Edhy today, Feb. 13, at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex.
The similarity between the two marches was first linked by a supporter of incumbent Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Twitter under the account @D4Ni3L_Pu that has 7,209 followers.
“Prabowo supporters would often attack Jokowi with issues related to communism. But why is Prabowo’s Party march similar to those of the Chile communist Party?” the Twitter account quipped.
Edhy further distanced his party’s official march to any Communism relations by maintaining that Gerindra Party believes in God and denies the similarities have anything to do with the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI).
"Venceremos" is a Chilean song translated to “We shall triumph”, which was written by Claudio Iturra and composed by Sergio Ortega for the 1970 election campaign of Salvador Allende.
