TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 5,263 personnel are deployed in the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police to provide security during the celebration of Chinese New Year (Imlek) on Tuesday. The joint personnel are from TNI (Indonesian military), Polri (National police), fire department, transportation office, and Satpol PP (public order agency), spokesman for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono said on Monday.

He noted that the police personnel had secured several places other than viharas (temples) starting on Monday evening. There are 332 viharas in and around Jakarta that must be secured.

"The other personnel are deployed to recreational areas, malls, and other public places," he added.

Meanwhile, traffic police officers are also deployed to regulate traffic in a number of roads. In case of traffic congestion leading to viharas, recreational places, and other public places, they will enforce counter flow during the Imlek day.
