TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fredian Husni, is charged with 8.5 years imprisonment for stealing Rp.4.4 billion from the State Bank of Central Java (Bank Jateng), a company he worked for. Prosecutor Rully Trie Prasetyo also demanded that the defendant pay a fine of Rp200 million.

If he fails to pay the fine after a verdict is given, he would have to serve an additional three months in prison.

The prosecutor also demanded that the defendant, who was an employee at the Pekalongan branch of Bank Jateng, to return the money he stole.

"If the defendant's property is not enough to replace the money he stole from the state, he would have to serve an additional sentence of confinement for three years and eight months," the prosecutor said during the hearing at the Semarang Corruption Court, Tuesday, January 15.

The defendant worked as an ATM officer; in charge of refilling six machines in the Pekalongan area. He took some of the money that he was supposed to have put into each machine and used it for gambling online. Bank Jateng's internal audit results showed that the bank lost Rp.4.4 billion from the practice

"The defendant made fictitious ATM charging transactions and manipulated the escort and security officers during the ATM charging process," the prosecutor said.

The judge gave the defendant the opportunity to deliver his defense at the hearing next week.
