TGB Officially Joins Golkar Party

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tuan Guru Bajang Zainul Majdi or TGB has officially joined Golkar Party. The party’s Coordinator of Election Campaign Team in Sumatra, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, said that the issue was decided during a plenary meeting which was held on Wednesday evening, December 19.
“He [TGB] officially joins [Golkar],” said Doli in a phone call with Tempo, Thursday, December 20.
Doli explained an agreement had been met in the internal party that TGB would be noted in the management structure of regional leadership council (DPP) as a coordinator for ummah or people division of Golkar Party.
Golkar DPP chairman Ace Hasan Shadzily said Golkar chairman Airlangga Hartarto would announce the information during the party event held in Dharmawangsa Hotel, Thursday evening, December 20. “TGB will also present there,” Ace added.
In last July, TGB resigned from his position in Democrat Party due to a personal reason. The former governor of West Nusa Tenggara previously declared his support for President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo in the 2019 presidential election.
At that time, TGB did not refuse the news that he was invited to join Golkar Party by Airlangga Hartarto following an issue saying Democrat Party would likely sanction him for supporting the incumbent candidate.
