Minister Upbeat NYIA Operative in April 2019

TEMPO.CO, Kulonprogo - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi is upbeat the New Yogyakarta International Airport, otherwise known as NYIA, in Kulon Progo regency, Yogyakarta, will be operative in April 2019.
“In March, the runway will be 100 percent complete. We are optimistic the airport will be operative for international flights,” Budi said in Kulon Progo on Friday, December 14, 2018.
Budi said the construction of the airport’s terminal was 40 percent complete and the runway was 19 percent complete, while the construction of other facilities were still underway.

Budi said a number of airlines from Korea, Japan and China had shown interest to the airport. He explained the number of tourists from these countries was significant, thus he was hopeful the airport would boost tourist arrivals in the province.
“The sure thing is, we are ready. There are also flights from Saudi Arabia,” the minister said.
The president director of state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura I, Faik Fahmi, said the airport’s airside and runway would be finished in March 2019.
Fahmi added the NYIA's apron and runway would be 100 percent complete in April 2019.
