TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Jakarta administration carried out an operation to combat social problems following the mass attack against personnel of Indonesian Military Forces (TNI) which lead to the burning of Ciracas Police Precinct HQ on early Wednesday, December 12.

The operation dubbed Operasi Penyakit Masyarakat (Pekat) is carried out by sweeping illegal parking attendants and unofficial traffic regulator or popularly known Pak Ogah.

“An operation towards those people who disrupt traffic and cause congestion,” said East Jakarta Mayor M. Anwar in the City Hall, Thursday, December 13.

According to Anwar, Pekat Operation has been commenced since November. Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) carried out the operation along with the local police. He explained the operation aimed at sweeping shemales or waria and prostitution places as well as monitoring the distribution of alcoholic drinks.

Earlier reports suggested that Ciracas Police Precinct was burned down on early Wednesday, December 12. The burning was allegedly committed by joint TNI officers as a response to the mass attack against its personnel done by illegal parking attendants on Monday afternoon, December 10.

As of press time, the police have yet released the progress of the investigation on the case of Ciracas Police Precinct. Meanwhile, four out of five suspects involved in the mass attack against TNI officers had been arrested.
