Grab, a fast growing Southeast Asian ridesharing, food delivery and financial services business, said Monday that Uber will take a 27.5 percent stake in it and a seat on its board as part of the deal. The Uber app will be discontinued in just two weeks, and in the meantime its drivers have to sign up to drive with Grab. TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - New policy on the online taxi, as replacement of Transportation Ministerial Regulation (Permenhub) No. 108/2017 on non-route public transportation services, would be soon issued. The earlier regulation was officially revoked by the Supreme Court on May 31, 2018.

Director-General of Land Transportation Budi Setyadi said the policy draft had been submitted to the Law and Human Rights Ministry. “If [the regulation] is completely reviewed within a near period or usually a week, hopefully, it will be finished and take effect starting December 2018,” said Budi in South Jakarta, Tuesday, November 27.

Earlier, the Supreme Court granted a petition to annul the Permenhub. The verdict was issued on the official site of the court on Wednesday, September 12. Therefore, the ministry was obliged to draft a new policy as the legal basis of the online taxi.

Several articles in the Permenhub 108/2017 triggered polemics due to violations against Article 4 (2) of Law No. 8/1999 on Consumer Protection, Article 4 and 5 of Law No, 20/2008 on micro, small, medium enterprises.

Since September 13, 2018, Budi explained the rejected articles would be revised while the accepted one would be noted in the new draft, including the tariff rate of the online taxi.
