TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Golkar Party politician Nusron Wahid planned to arrange a meeting between vice presidential candidate Ma`ruf Amin and Teman Ahok, a volunteer group supporting the former governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok. Earlier, Nusron succeeded to hold a session of Ma’ruf and a similar group dubbed Relawan Nusantara.

“I am closed with Teman Ahok so we will later arrange a meeting (with Ma’ruf Amin),” Nusron said at Ma’ruf Amin’s residence, Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 25.

On Monday, September 24, Nusron coordinated a meeting between Ma’ruf and Relawan Nusantara, which was Ahok’s supporters in the previous Gubernatorial Election in 2014.

The initiator of the National Volunteer Supporters of Ahok did not deny that the group members shocked to hear the news that the incumbent candidate Joko Widodo or Jokowi chose Ma’ruf Amin as his running mate considering the non-active Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) was known as a figure who issued an edict noting Ahok was guilty of committing a blasphemy and insulting ulema in the case of Al-Maidah verse 31.

“But we explain it to them [Relawan Nusantara] about Pak Kiai [Ma’ruf Amin] position at that time as MUI chairman and they understand it,” he added.

Nusron further opined that the similar groups supporting Ahok would have a similar understanding after they meet Ma’ruf Amin.

Meanwhile, Ma`ruf Amin said on Monday, September 24 that he attempted to meet all groups to gain support in the 2019 Presidential Election, including supporters of former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or known as Ahokers. “For me, I have to get along with all parties for the integrity of the nation,” he said.
