BNPB: Lombok Quake Recovery Costs Rise to Rp2.6tn

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Willem Rampangilei, the head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), said that the total fund needed for post-quake rehabilitation and reconstruction in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, reached Rp8.6 trillion. This figure has increased from the previous estimate of Rp6 trillion.
"This must be verified again, because it is only a quick count," Willem said during a meeting with the DPR in Jakarta, Monday, September 10. The meeting was specifically held to discuss the mitigation and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the West Nusa Tenggara earthquake.

Of the total fund needed, only around Rp377 billion has been channeled through the BNPB Budget Implementation List (DIPA).
The largest funding allocation is for North Lombok and West Lombok, which are the most affected locations. The total damage in North Lombok reached Rp3.19 trillion, and the total recovery cost is estimated at Rp3.09 trillion.

Meanwhile, the total damage in North Lombok reached Rp3.59 trillion and the total recovery cost needed is Rp2.08 trillion.
A series of earthquakes hit Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara in August 2018. BNPB recorded that at least 564 people were killed—more than 80 percent of them were in North Lombok. The number of people injured reached 1,584 with more than half of them located in North Lombok as well.
On August 27, 2018, Willem said that the estimated cost needed for recovery was some Rp6 trillion.
