TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) chief Willem Rampangilei has revealed the latest data on the Lombok quake, saying that throughout August 2018 there were two major earthquakes in Lombok on July 29 and August 5, plus 2,506 incidents including aftershocks.

Willem said the BNPB had also calculated the ballpark figure pertaining to the fund required for the rehabilitation in Lombok. According to BNPB's calculation, the total damage reached Rp10.1 trillion and the total losses were Rp 2trillion.

"While the total fund required for rehabilitation efforts according to our calculation reached Rp8.6 trillion," Willem said in a consultation meeting on the handling of the Lombok quake with the House of Representatives at the Nusantara II building in Jakarta on Monday, September 10, 2018.

Of the total figure, the government has only earmarked Rp377 billion.

Most of the fund will be channeled to North Lombok and West Lombok—the hardest-hit regions. The total damage in North Lombok reaches Rp3.19 trillion and the total rehabilitation fund required is Rp3.09 trillion. Meanwhile, in West Lombok, the total damage is Rp3.59 trillion and the total fund required for rehabilitation is Rp2.08 trillion.

A series of earthquakes rocked Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, in August 2018. The BNPB said the Lombok quake claimed at least 564 lives—82.8 percent of whom were of North Lombok—and injured 1,548 others—52.3 percent of whom hailed from North Lombok.
