TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia imposes a ban on fresh poultry products from Malaysia from entering the local market. The prohibition is based on the bird flu outbreak in Malaysia.

Khaeruddin, the Agricultural Quarantine Office's Service and Operations sub-division chief of Entikong, said that the ban is aimed at ensuring no entry of poultry and poultry products from Malaysia infected with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).

"We will strictly carry out the ban in accordance with the Quarantine Agency's Circular Letter no.13631/KR.120/K/08/2018 on the prohibition of fresh poultry and poultry products countries enduring the HPAI outbreak," he said on Thursday, August 30.

According to Khaeruddin, the circular letter had been disseminated in the Indonesia-Malaysia border area as well, namely Badau District in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan.

"The Entikong Agricultural Quarantine continues to monitor and prepare preventive measures so that there is no Avian Flu outbreak and spread in Indonesia, especially in West Kalimantan," Khaeruddin remarked.
