Terawan to Use Ex-Laboratory of Avian Flu for Covid-19 Vaccine Production

23 September 2020 10:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe former laboratory of avian influenza located at Bio Farma Bandung Complex will be used as a production factory for the Covid-19 vaccine. Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto and Bio Farma CEO Honesti Basyir signed a deal on the use of the asset on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Terawan explained the ministry will apply the state capital injections (PMN) for the takeover of the asset. However, it requires a long time, so it will be through an agreement letter for immediate use.

“Hopefully, the building can be used well and blessed by God the almighty. May this will be a good start for what Bio Farma is doing,” said the minister in a written statement as quoted from the ministry’s site Kemkes.go.id on Wednesday, September 23.

Bio Farma CEO Honesti Basyir seconded Terawan’s statement. He hoped the takeover of the laboratory could accelerate the production process of the Covid-19 vaccine and RT-PCR kits. A large-scale production, he added, needed vast areas so that the building would provide significant help.

“By the signing of the agreement and support from the Health Ministry, we will soon process the state capital injection so that we can use the ex-avian influenza laboratory immediately,” said Basyir.
