TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The mall and shopping center management in Palembang, South Sumatra, will hold the Palembang Great Sale to welcome the 2018 Asian Games on August 15-September 2.

Six malls will participate, namely Opi Mal, Palembang Trade Center (PTC), Palembang Square, PSX, LippoPlaza Jakabaring and Palembang Icon.

Chairman of the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) Coing said his association hoped the Palembang Great Sale which coincided with the Asian Games could boost visits and retail transactions in shopping centers.

“We target it can reach 250,000 visitors per day during the Asian Games event. We hope that the guests are from out of town and the Asian Games officials,” said Coing in Palembang, Wednesday, August 15.

Coing said that there would be discounts of up to 75 percent and a cashback program of Rp1 million. He hopes the increase in sales of tenants can reach 30-40 percent.

“Not only fashion products, but there are also other tenants, such as electronic, culinary, household needs,” he said. Coing said that currently there are around 200 tenants who have registered, he was sure that the number will increase.

“There are big tenants like Matahari, Hypermart, which of course participate in the Palembang Great Sale,” he said.

Palembang City becomes the second city to host the Asian Games after Jakarta. It will hold 12 sports, including shooting, tennis, women’s football, bowling, sepak takraw, rock climbing and more.
