Mako Brimob Riot, Police Conduct Negotiation with Prisoners

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police’s Head of the Information Bureau Brig. Gen. Pol. Mohammad Iqbal said until now the police is currently conducting negotiation with the prisoners of the Mobil Brigade's Commande Headquarters or Mako Brimob in Kelapa Dua, Depok.


“The negotiation requires a process. Now the condition is under control,” he said this afternoon, Wednesday, May 9 in Mako Brimob, Depok, West Java.

According to Iqbal, the police has prepared some special strategy to control the situation considering the prisoners are terrorist inmates. “We keep making a persuasive approach.”


Iqbal further appealed the community to remain calm as he claimed the condition is now under control. However, the police keep developing soft approaches and other measures.


The riot in Mako Brimob in Kelapa Dua, Depok occurred in Block C on Tuesday night, May 8 at around 21:00 local times. The riot was allegedly triggered by a simple cause which is food.

The police were still seen secured the place. Since the morning, police vehicles have been passing around Mako Brimob. The traffic was also reportedly congested from Jakarta to Depok and vice versa.


Iqbal has not further explained the recent condition of the victims of Mako Brimob riot yet. "We cannot say that at this time because we still communicate it," he said.
