TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Agung Budi Maryoto said Rizieq Shihab’s case, which has recently been stopped through the issuance of an SP3 (investigation termination warrant), can be resumed if a novum or new evidence was found in the future.

"Whenever there is a novum or new evidence that can be used for investigation, we will reopen [the case] through a pretrial motion that we will file and get the verdict from the judge," said Agung in Cirebon on Monday, May 7.

Agung explained the West Java Police had coordinated with the criminal experts and linguists to get a complete input before issuing the SP3. Linguists and criminals experts have not found strong evidence for the case.

"The results of the preliminary investigation followed up with the full investigation, then we called witnesses of criminal experts and linguists, they said that the criminal elements had not been sufficient," he said.

"Because there is no strong evidence yet, eventually the SP3 was issued," Agung added. If later a novum or new evidence was found, he said, then the case would be reopened.

He insisted that he was not directly involved in the decision-making of the SP3 issuance, as it was the domain of investigators.

"As a leader, I do not intervene in the case, it is the domain of investigators," said Agung.
