State-owned company Garuda Indonesia.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The workers union of state airline Garuda Indonesia, Sekarga, is giving 30 days to the government—as the company's shareholder—to fulfill their demands. If after 30 days they still don’t get what they want, the airline's staff will go on strike.

One of their demands is to fire Garuda's Human Resources Director, Linggarsari Suharso.

Capt. Eric Ferdinand of the Garuda Pilots Association (APG) said he and fellow workers no longer trusted the company director. They seek an audience with the government in order to find a solution to this problem.

"We want directors who understand the aviation world," he told Tempo on Thursday, May 3.

Linggarsari is seen as incapable to serve as one of Garuda's directors. The HR department under her is regarded to create policies without prior discussions with employees.

Linggarsari responded to the strike threats through a written statement, saying there is room for discussions between the directors and the employees.

According to Eric, Garuda's shares decline is also due to poor services, which he claimed to be caused yang by a "non-harmonious management".

Meanwhile, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi asked for the strike threats to be handled internally between Garuda's management and their employees.

"It should be resolved bipartitely between the corporation and the union; hold a dialogue to find a way out," Budi said.
