TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammad Iqbal said the East Nusa Tenggara Police are still investigating the shooting of a West Sumba resident, Poro Duka.

"The NTT Police are processing it," Iqbal said in Jakarta, Tuesday, May 2.

Poro Duka died when he protested during a land-marking activity done by investors at the coast of Marosi, West Sumba Regency, on April 25.

The shooting allegedly happened when PT Sutera Marosi and the local Land Agency (BPN) measured a land under the protection of dozens of armed police officers and army soldiers. Residents who were there started taking photos and videos of the activity, including Poro Duka.

"The police tried to confiscate their phones," Patiala Bawa Village chief Luter Laku Nijasaid on Wednesday.

In one of the recorded videos taken by Poro Duka's brother, two gunshots were heard.

Iqbal said the police shouldn’t have brought firearms when securing protests. "That's the standard operating procedure," he said.
