TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have shot dead a man who allegedly mugged and tried to sexually assault a Grabcar passenger. The suspect, LI (27) was shot because he resisted arrest.

“During the chase, the suspect tried to hit officers,” West Jakarta Police Chief, Sr. Comr. Hengki Haryadi said on Thursday, April 16.

On April 23, SS (24) placed a Grabcar order to pick her up at home in Tambora, West Jakarta.

Soon after, a Suzuki Wagon with the license number B 2353 BZB showed up, driven by Gugus Gunawan. During the ride, two men suddenly came out of the back seat and tried to rape the victim. But SS was having her period and so the perpetrators changed their minds.

What they did was robbed her belongings. “Including a mobile phone, ATM cards, and Rp30,000 in cash,” Hengki said.

The men then dropped the victim in front of her house.

Following up on reports, the police captured SN (23) and AP (23) on April 25 in North Penjaringan. From them, the police discovered the whereabouts of LI.

LI was found this morning in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. He resisted arrest and tried to hit the police with his car.

“Urine test result shows that LI was on drugs,” Hengki said.

The other two suspects are still being interrogated by the police.
