TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno targetted 80 percent of the capital city communities can access the clean water by 2022. As of date, only 60 percent of Jakarta areas has been installed with the water pipeline.

“I hoped the program will be done at the end of my administration era,” said Sandiaga Uno in the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 19.

Earlier in the 2018 West Jakarta Village Development Planning and Consultation (Musrenbang) on Thursday, March 22, Governor Anies Baswedan stated 40 percent of Jakartan lack of easy access to the tap water.

Anies explained the city faced a water crisis where its communities have to buy the water in retail at Rp20,000 a day or Rp600,000 per month.

The director of city-owned water operator PD PAM Jaya Erlan Hidayat admitted that the company has yet supplied the clean water to 40 percent areas in Jakarta. “The total consumer of PAM is 839,391,” said Erlan when contacted by Tempo on Friday, March 23.

Furthermore, Erlan claimed 100 percent residents of Central Jakarta have the access to the clean water through PAM.
