TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Rahmat Bagja said that the problem of electronic identity cards (e-KTP) recording in Papua should be discussed specifically by the election organizers, Commission II of the House of Representatives, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"Nearly 70 percent of Papuans have not recorded their e-KTP," Bagja said on Friday, April 13, 2018.

One of the reasons is that there are groups of people who think that recording it is against the local beliefs.

In addition, the recording process is also hampered by Papua's geographical condition. Bagja informed that there was a ship carrying the e-KTP card recorder that sank because it was overloaded and was hit by the waves when heading to one of the areas in Papua.

Bawaslu is currently in the process of recapitulating the result of e-KTP recording after the agency established outposts in 381 districts/cities and 17 provinces following the establishment of the National Interim Voters List on March 24, 2018.

Previously, the General Election Commission (KPU) noted that there were 6.7 million of the 152.9 million voters who were listed in the Temporary Voter List (DPS) but have not yet recorded their e-KTP cards.E-KTP cards is a requirement before people can cast their votes.
