TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo instructed Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian and Communication and Information (Kominfo) Minister Budi Arie Setiadi to expedite the implementation of the digital identity or Digital ID. He expected its implementation to be completed within the next six months.
“Accelerate the development and implementation of digital ID within six months at the latest,” Jokowi said while opening the cabinet plenary session at State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 9.
Quoting from Koran Tempo, the government launched the trial of Digital ID adoption among state apparatus in mid-2022. In February 2023, the regional governments of several provinces started the implementation.
By 2023, the government aimed to activate Digital ID for 20 percent of the total 50 million e-KTP holders. Currently, at least ten million users have downloaded the Digital ID or IKD mobile application.
Kominfo Minister Budi Arie said on Tuesday that the government would make its best effort to implement the Digital ID within the next six months. He stressed that data security was one of his ministry's priority concerns.
“The government is ready. The integration has been done. The platform, the application, and the digital architecture are ready. The concept is already in place. It is now a matter of uniting all ministries/institutions at the central and regional levels,” Budi Arie explained.
Jokowi also demanded Budi Arie to immediately initiate the transformation to the government cloud to accelerate the improvement of public services, which will be headed by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
