TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Managing Director Grab Indonesia Ridzki Kramadibrata questioned the recent protest staged by online motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers on tariffs, which he believes does not represent the entire Grab Bike drivers.

“We doubt that it truly represents our partner drivers since holding discussions with our drivers on a daily basis is what we do,” said Ridzki at the Grab Indonesia headquarters on Friday, April 6.

Ridzki acknowledged that Grab drivers have talked about increasing the tariff of ride-hailing services and that the company had always tried to fulfill drivers’ requests since it is in line with Grab’s interest.

However, the request to increase the tariff of online ride-hailing services to Rp4,000 per kilometer is considered by Ridzki to be too extreme. He claims that driver’s income would potentially face a significant decline and questions whether Grab driver representatives at the rally had truly understood the consequences of a rise in tariff.

As previously reported, drivers and partners of two ride-hailing app companies, GoJek and Grab, held a massive rally at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, March 27. Protesters demanded that the current Rp1,600/kilometer tariff is increased to Rp4,000/kilometer.
