TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Online Drivers Association (ADO) rejected the government`s plan of shifting the online-based transportation service providers into a public transport service company.
“That is not a solution to the problem that is currently happening,” said ADO Chairman Christiansen FW Wagey in a written statement on Thursday, March 29.
Previously, the Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko and Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi announced that exact plan after the two held a meeting with GoJek and Grab CEOs on Wednesday, March 28.

Christiansen argues that the plan does not answer online drivers’ demands and would be a great loss for his community. He further explained that the status change would topple the principle of partnership between app providers and the online drivers that they have known all along.
“It would create a working relationship that resembles a boss and an employee,” he said.
According to Christiansen, the government should have focused on determining a certain legal protection for online drivers from practices that can bring harm to this field of work. He also demanded that ride-hailing app companies should not mistreat online drivers and stop activities that are considered into the domain of transport providers.
