KPK to Probe Names Mentioned by Setya Novanto

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Saut Situmorang, said his office will examine the names whom Setya Novanto claimed to have received money embezzled from the electronic identity card (e-KTP) project. Setya revealed the names during a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday, March 22.


During the trial, Setya mentioned two Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politicians, Puan Maharani and Pramono Anung, received US$500,000 each.

According to Setya Novanto, he heard the names from Made Oka Masagung who paid him a visit at his house. Pramono Anung has denied Setya’s accusation.


“If you want [to be a justice collaborator, don’t mention names and expect that [the move ] can save you," Pramono said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, yesterday.

In addition to Pramono and Puan, Setya mentioned other politicians, namely Arief Wibowo, Olly Dondokambey, and Ganjar Pranowo from the PDIP; Melchias Marcus Mekeng and Chairuman Harahap from the Functional Group (Golkar) Party; Tamsil Linrung from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS); and Jafar Hafsah from the Democratic Party.


According to Saut, the KPK has not been able to prove the mentioned politicians to be involved in the e-KTP corruption case. Saut said the KPK needs more evidence to verify the allegation.
