TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will continue to deepen the facts and trial findings that dragged the Golkar politician Kahar Muzakir in a number of cases.

Kahar Muzakir was inaugurated as the Chairman of the Law Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR), replacing Bambang Soesatyo, who became the Chairman of the House.

KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said the institute appreciates the appointment mechanism because it is an internal affair of the legislative.

“For KPK, Commission III remains a partner, therefore the communication and cooperation are still running as it should,” said Febri Diansyah, Tuesday, January 30.

Previously, Kahar's name was mentioned in two cases by the KPK, such as bribery case of National Sports Week (PON) XVIII/2012 Riau and satellite monitoring procurement project at Indonesian Coast Guard (Bakamla).

According to Febri, the KPK remains to be professional in deepening the facts even though Kahar several times has denied the fact of his association.

“Related to the roles of parties in the budgeting process, there are also communications that we studied there and the alleged flow of funds that have appeared in the trial became one of the KPK’s main focuses,” said Febri.

“The problem is whether the evidence is strong enough to process further. This is what we are studying now carefully, “ Febri added.

In the corruption case trial of PON (National Sports Week) at Pekanbaru, a witness named Lukman Abbas, Head of Youth and Sports Riau Department, said that he and the Governor at that time, whose name was Rusly Zainal, intended to hand over Rp9 billion to Setya Novanto and Kahar Muzakir.

When they met, Setya and Kahar refused to accept the money, but both suggested to hand over the money to Kahar's aide named Acin.

Meanwhile, in the Bakamla case of drone and satellite procurement, Kahar's name was also mentioned in a Whatsapp conversation between Fayahun Andriadi and an entrepreneur Erwin Arif. Kahar's name was also mentioned as a person who can pass the discussion of procurement budget in Parliament.

Kahar himself stated in a statement last week, that he wanted to “cool down” the relationship between Commission III with the KPK. “We make Commission III and KPK relations to cool down, no need to heat up,” said Kahar in Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 24.

Kahar was determined to improve the relationship of commissions with other institutions to smooth the implementation of the institution tasks.

Kahar Muzakir also denied that the Golkar Party appointed him to lead the Commission III to “secure” the case of Setya Novanto who was involved in the corruption case in the procurement of e-KTP.
