TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State power company PLN has set a target to set up 1,000 units of general electricity provider stations (SPLU) in Jakarta by the end of 2017.

Ikhsan Asaad, a PLN general manager for great Jakarta distributions (PLN Disjaya), said that the move reflects PLN’s commitment to support the electric vehicle uses.

“PLN Disjaya is ready to provide charging stations or SPLU,” Ikhsan said on the sidelines of a meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, December 14.

As of December 2017, Ikhsan revealed, PLN Disjaya has installed 924 units of SPLU across the company’s jurisdiction. In order to achieve the target of 1,000 charging stations, the company has set up a partnership with BMW Group Indonesia that shares the same commitment to supporting and developing electric car charging stations.

BMW Group Indonesia CEO Karen Lim hopes that with the cooperation, the development of infrastructures for the electric vehicle in Jakarta will be realized.

“This important moment highlights a commitment from PLN Disjaya and BMW Group Indonesia to realizing environmentally-friendly electric vehicles for Jakarta,” she said.

During the occasion, BMW Group Indonesia handed over the BMW i Wallbox Plus, the latest charging station produced by BMW i. The device is equipped with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology that can communicate with electric vehicles to transfer 7.4 kW worth of power.

Every BMW i consumer will receive a BMW i Wallbox Plus to be used at home, and the installation will be supervised by BMW Group Indonesia.
