TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Setya Novanto plans to bring witnesses for him in the investigation of the electronic ID cards (e-KTP) graft case. Defense lawyer Fredrich Yunadi said on November 23 that he will bring six fact witnesses.

Fredrich said that the fact witnesses to be brought are DPR member from Golkar faction but he refused to name them.

Having named Setya a suspect for the second time, the KPK has questioned dozens of witnesses from the House of Representatives, the Home Affairs Ministry and private companies.

The KPK yesterday summoned Setya’s two children as witnesses but they skipped the questioning. The KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah warned them to attend questioning as part of compliance with the law. “Summons have been served appropriately,” he said.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Febri said that the anti-graft agency is in no hurry to resolve the case that caused Rp2.3 trillion in state losses.

Setya was named a suspect in the e-KTP graft case for the first time on July 17. He allegedly enriched himself and others in the project worth Rp5.9 trillion. The Golkar chairman challenged the decision and filed a pretrial motion with the South Jakarta District Court.

The pretrial suit was won by Setya. Sole judge Cepi Iskandar declared Setya Novanto’s suspect status was invalid. At the end of October, the KPK issued a new notice to start the investigation into the House Speaker. The latter is challenging the decision once again.
