TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla has told the House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Setya Novanto to abide by the law in the investigation into the electronic identity cards (e-KTP) graft case.
Jusuf Kalla said that the Corruption Eradication Commission does not need any permit to question Setya Novanto.
The KPK was ready to question the DPR Speaker on Monday. Instead, the Golkar Party chairman asked the DPR Secretariat General to send a letter informing that he refused to be questioned, citing the lack of permit from President Joko Widodo.

The KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah has also told Setya to be cooperative. “We expect that no one will make investigation into a KPK case difficult. The laws are clear. Don’t bring the President into this,” he noted.
Setya Novanto has once again been implicated into the e-KTP case after the issuance of a new investigation warrant on October 31, in which Setya was named as a suspect.
Febri confirmed that the KPK has issued the investigation warrant.
Setya Novanto’s defense lawyer Fredrich Yunadi said that the KPK is not authorized to question his client. Even more so because his client has won a pretrial hearing over his involvement in the e-KTP graft case. “The KPK has no reason to question or name [Setya Novanto] as a suspect,” he said.
