TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla suggested that there is no need to legally processed social media accounts for uploading Setya Novanto’s memes, as the form of the media is similar to caricature.
“If all of those memes were to be legally processed, the court will be overwhelmed due to the huge number,” Kalla said at his office in Jakarta today, Nov. 7, adding that a meme is a form of media to express opinions.

Earlier, Setya Novanto’s legal team reported 68 social accounts for spreading memes about their client. The report was filed with the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim). The accounts consist of 25 Twitter accounts, nine Instagram accounts, and eight Facebook accounts.
The memes that mentioned about Setya Novanto’s being ill hash-tagged “The Power of Setnov" went viral on social media. The memes were uploaded as reactions to Setya Novanto being released from his suspect naming in a graft case surrounding the electronic identity card procurement project.
Kalla suggested that the main issue related to the meme case was doctor’s explanations. He urged doctors to explain Setya Novanto’s health status.
“The case must be clarified with explanations from doctors. They must explain that he [Setya Novanto], was actually ill,” Kalla said.
