TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said that he plans to summon National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian to ask for the development of police’s investigation on the Novel Baswedan acid attack.

“I will summon the police chief,” said President Jokowi on Friday, November 3. President Jokowi asserted that anything related to Novel Baswedan’s case must be clear, understandable, and thorough.

Presidential spokesman Johan Budi said that no dates have been set regarding the summoning of the Indonesian National Police chief. However, Budi believes that the President continues to meticulously monitor this specific criminal case involving the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan.

Muhammadiyah Youth chairman Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, who is also a close friend of Novel Baswedan, claims that the government is currently discussing on forming a fact-finding team to handle this case. He issued that statement following a meeting with Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

Dahnil reminded that if the fact-finding team does get formed, it should consist of anti-corruption activists who are independent and have credibility. In other words, Dahnil doubts that the team would shed any light if it is filled with members from the Police institution.
