TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives views that the formation of the fact-finding team to investigate the case of KPK senior investigator Novel Baswedan is unnecessary.
“We must not treat Novel Baswedan’s [acid attack] case as a special one. Let the police handle it. There’s no need to exploit it as a national issue,” said Masinton Pasaribu, deputy chairman of the House of Representatives’ Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) inquiry committee, in a discussion held in Jakarta today, August 5.

The politician from the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) added that the formation of a fact-finding team would not be effective since the team only issue recommendations.
Masinton called on the public to let police work on the case. He added that the case should not be linked with corruption eradication efforts.
“There’s a view that the attack on Novel Baswedan was related to corruption cases. It could be triggered by other causes, such as debt,” he said.
