Evacuees Leave Shelters as Bali Mount Agung Alert Status Lowered

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Evacuees whose home are located beyond the 6-7.5 kilometers radius have left shelters as the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) yesterday lowered the alert status of Bali volcano Mount Agung.
Klungkung Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Putu Widiada said 14 people had reported that they were leaving their evacuation shelter. “They are from Muncan village and they left by themselves [using their own cars]. There are 10 individuals also from Muncan village who had asked to be taken home tomorrow [today],” he said yesterday.
Bali BPBD says that 6 villages are situated in dangerous radius, namely Jungutan, Bhuana Giri, Besakih, Dukuh and Ban. The residents of the villages are not yet allowed to leave shelters.
PVMBG head Kasbani earlier explained that the decision to lower the alert status was based on the data of Mount Agung activity. “It’s purely technical data, there is no pressure [from anyone],” he said. “We continue to monitor [the situation].”
