TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The government plans to build the second Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Soekarno-Hatta 2 will be built on the fourth out of seven artificial islands in the northern beach of Tangerang Regency.

The Tangerang Regency's Spatial Planning and Building Office head Taufik Emil told Tempo on Tuesday, Oct. 10, that the airport's construction is still being planned by the Transportation Ministry's Air Transport Directorate General.

"It is still in the phase of pre-feasibility study. There is no estimate on when the construction will begin, Emil said on Tuesday, October 11.

The fourth island is one of seven that the Tangerang Regency plans to build by reclaiming 9,000 hectares of water areas along the northern coast of Tangerang from Dadap Beach to Kronjo.

Previously, the regency government has appointed Tangerang International City (TIC), a subsidiary of Salim Group, to manage the reclamation area. TIC and other developers will co-build the island-shaped Kota Baru Pantura.
