Skytrain Trials at Soekarno Hatta Airport to Begin in Mid August

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three sets of unmanned trains (skytrains) have arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Cengkareng, Banten. The three series of trains consist of six carriages coming in two stages from South Korea.

"Six Skytrain cars have arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, four cars arrived at the end of July," said PT Angkasa Pura II spokesman Yado Yarismano to Tempo on Monday, August 7, 2017.

Yado explained at the first stage two skytrain cars arrived in June. Mode of transportation based on Automated People Mover System (APMS) technology is directly placed on the rail in front of Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

In stage two, two sets of trains consisting of four carriages arrived at the end of July. The train is also placed on the Skytrain lane. "All Skytrain units will undergo physical checks before testing," Yado said.

Technically, Yado said, what is currently being carried out, is the  final stage work for the Skytrain path from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 and vice versa. At this stage, some work done checks tracks of tracks, paths, electrical systems and guide rails on track A and track B is being performed.

According to Yado, after the track work is completed, then trials will be conducted.

Director of Operations and Engineering PT Angkasa Pura II, Djoko Murdjatmojo, estimates the Skytrain test will be conducted in mid-August. "During the trials, Skytrain will be pulled back and forth to Terminals 2 and 3 with the driver without passengers," said Djoko.

An empty Skytrain test with the driver will be continuously done until the time is sufficient. "In accordance with the provisions, the train must be with a driver within a certain time, after all the new save without a driver," said Djoko.

Furthermore, said Djoko, then Skytrain will be tested by passengers without drivers. After passing the trial, the Directorate General of Railways will grant operational permits and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Skytrain will operate. Djoko can not confirm when the Skytrain will be in  full operation.

Previously, Angkasa Pura II promised that the Skytrain at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has been completed and ready to be tested end of July and will operate this August. However, due to technical constraints, the  Skytrain trial schedule has been delayed.

Skytrain, is Indonesia's first shuttle that will transport passengers between terminals at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The first stage of the Skytrain will operate one train set consisting of two carriages serving from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3. One trainset consisting of 2 trains with a total capacity can accommodate 176 persons for passengers or airport visitors from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 as well as others.
