TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the government needs to consider all aspirations before the law on online taxis that has been revised is enforced.
“We will have another meeting on [October] 17,” Budi said during the opening of Indonesia Transport Logistics and Maritime Week 2017 at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, today, October 10.
According to Budi, the new bill that regulates tariffs, operation areas, and the armada size is expected to improve taxi drivers’ income and taxi companies’ revenue.

Earlier, the Supreme Court approved a judicial review on Transportation Minister’s Regulation No. 26/2017 on online transportation services. The provision revoked in the new bill was the upper and lower tariff thresholds.
Budi revealed that his ministry would invite experts in the near future to provide recommendations related to the issue.
“We can’t say anything yet about the solution. We will invite experts in a week or two to provide recommendations,” Budi added.
At least 18 points or 14 articles of the regulation are considered to contravene the higher law, namely Law No. 20/2008 on Micro, Small, and Medium Business and Law No. 22/2009 on Traffic and Land Transportation.
A lawsuit was filed by at least six online taxi drivers who expressed their objections to the new law.
