Police named Jonru as a suspect for allegedly spreading hate speeches on the internet. Among his social media posts that caused controversy suggested that Indonesia is being colonized by China.

Jonru has undergone questioning and is currently being detained by the Jakarta Metro Police. Authorities have also searched Jonru’s residence and confiscated his laptop, flash drive, and several other items that are related to the case.

Teten Masduki reminded the public to not view Jonru’s arrest as the government’s act of tyranny. He explained that the law statutes the ban on spreading hate speeches and spreading deceit.
