TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned lender Bank Mandiri provides an electronic money (E-Money) simulator at the Indonesia Business and Development Expo (IBDExpo) 2017. Bank Mandiri is attempting to promote the sales of its electronic money at the event held in Jakarta Convention Center.
"Averagely, some 200 [e-money chip] cards were sold every day," said Sigit, an officer at Bank Mandiri booth on Saturday, Sept. 23.
The e-money simulator is the main attraction at Bank Mandiri booth. Dito, a student at Yarsi University said that he had no idea on how to use the electronic money for toll payment and admitted that he only use it to buy TransJakarta bus ticket.
Besides the e-money simulator, the visitors can also buy the electronic money at an automatic selling machine and will get a special edition chip card.
At the IDB Expo 2017, Bank Mandiri’s e-money are sold at Rp50,000 with a Rp30,000 credit included.
"There is another special edition [chip] card which features three Indonesian legendary badminton athletes and is sold at Rp25,000," Sigit said. He said most of the buyers were university students and employees.
Senior Vice President Transaction Banking Retail Sales Thomas Wahyudi predicts that the growth of Bank Mandiri’s e-money will exceed 50 percent in 2017.
Thomas also told Tempo on Wednesday, that currently, there are more than 10 million units of e-money chip card distributed to the public. It is predicted that the number will be increased once the electronic toll payment policy implemented in October.
