TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IX will soon form a working committee (Panja) on health care to investigate the death of baby Debora at Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Jakarta.

“The Panja will summon relevant parties to get as many information as possible, in a comprehensive manner,” Commission IX member Nihayatul Wafiroh said in Jakarta on September 12.

Nihayatul said that the committee will summon Debora’s family, Mitra Keluarga Hospital executives, the BPJS (Social Security Agency) and the Health Minister.

Afterward, the committee will issue recommendations to the hospital in baby Debora’ case.

The National Awakening Party (PKB) politician explained that Law No. 36/2009 on Health strictly forbids hospitals from rejecting any patients. “Hospitals that reject patients, let alone causing death, will face criminal charges,” she said.

Ninik said that Mitra Keluarga Hospital has violated the Health Law in baby Debora’s case. She said that the hospital owner should have already understood the contents of the Health Law since being granted hospital business permit.

Commission IX deputy speaker Saleh Partaonan Daulay added that a hospital should not only be established to make a profit but also for humanitarian purposes.

“Even though the hospital has apologized and refunded the BPJS fees, the issues that caused the death of baby Debora have not been addressed yet,” he said.

The National Mandate Party politician expressed that the death of baby Debora happened due to the hospital’s negligence.
