TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - A traffic police officer in South Tangerang became a victim of an assault done by 14 students. One of the students had even attacked the police member with a long knife.

“The victim was Adj. First Inspector Sugiri from the Cisauk Police Sector who was managing traffic on Thursday, September 7,” said South Tangerang Police Adj. Commissioner Alexander on Tuesday, September 12.

Moments before the assault took place, Sugiri saw that the students were tagging a ride on the back and front bumper of a truck and asked them to get off of the truck.

Alexander explained that one of the students was offended by Sugiri's order and started an argument with the victim. Another student commenced an attack by hitting Sugiri but was deflected.

After commencing their initial attack, other students started to swarm the victim with punches with one student swinging a long-knife towards Sugiri’s right shoulder which fortunately was not lethal since the student used the blunt side.

Numerous witnesses then came to the victim’s aid and the students ran away. Police managed to catch 14 perpetrators based on the information they received from the locals. The perpetrators will be charged with Article 358 (1) of the Criminal Code.
