TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government invited app-based taxi service providers in Makassar to dialogue after the Supreme Court annulled Article 14 of the Transportation Minister’s Regulation No. 26/2017 on public transportation without a specific route.

“We hope that this meeting can result in the best solution to accommodate the interests of conventional taxis, application based taxis, and the public,” said Hindro Surahmat, director general of Land Transportation at the Transportation Ministry yesterday.

Hindro urges local government to preserve a safe environment until a new legal basis regarding online taxis is introduced.

Indonesian Transportation Community (MTI) chairman Darmaningtyas said that the Supreme Court’s decision is final, but it does not necessarily mean that all provisions of the regulation are annulled.

Online Drivers Association (ADO) representative Christiansen Wagey called on the government to follow up the supreme court’s decision by issuing a new regulation.

“We agree to create a new regulation, but it shouldn’t be only applied to transportation businesses but also to the app-based taxi companies.” said Christiansen.
