TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) ensured that volcanic ash will not fall in Yogyakarta today. The agency confirmed that there will only be fog resulted from high humidity reaching 96 to 99 percent.
"We have confirmed that there will be no volcanic ash. Fog is normal to occur during weather transition period," Yogyakarta BMKG head Agus Sudaryatno said on Saturday, August 26.
Fog is shrouding Yogyakarta according to BMKG weather forecast on August 26, from 06:00 - 07:00 in the morning. In the same time, there was a rumor spreading saying that Mount Merapi erupted.
The high fog, he explained, is also caused by the clouds that did not block the Sunrays to Earth, and it resulted in faster evaporation that distorted thin water droplets as if it were dust.
Yogyakarta Disaster Mitigation (BPBD) Quick Reaction Team commander Wahyu Pristiawan also stated that Mt. Merapi is declared safe.
"There is no volcanic ash caused by Mt. Merapi volcanic activities," Pristiawan confirmed.
