TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The volcanic activity of Mount Dukono, North Halmahera, North Maluku continues to increase with 2,013 eruptions, which released volcanic ash as high as 200-900 meters.

Based on data received by TEMPO, the peak of Mount Dukono’s activity was on Friday, August 4, 2017. It was observed that Mount Dukono erupted 363 times with amplitude of 5-34 millimeter that lasted for 21.18-86.18 seconds, and released volcanic ash as high as 600 meters.

On Thursday, August 3, 2017, Mount Dukono erupted 308 times with amplitude of 7-34 millimeters that lasted for 20.06-76.65 seconds. Even post observation, it was recorded that the eruptions of Mount Dukono caused a tectonic earthquake far away.

Sarjan Roboke with the Dukono Volcano Observation Post said Dukono activity continues to release volcanic ash. White, gray and thick smoke with as high as 500-600 meters is always seen every day. The latest report said that the mount erupted 204 times.

"However the status is still level II alert. People and tourists are still prohibited from approaching Malupang Warirang crater within a 2-kilometer radius,” said Sarjan in his report received by TEMPO Monday, August 7, 2017.

Mount Dukono is one of the three volcanoes located on Halmahera Island. There are at least 23 thousand residents in four districts living on the slopes of Mount Dukono. In November 2016, Dukono's activity caused Gamarmalamo Galela Airport to be closed due to the effects of its eruption.
