TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of people from the Pancasila Youth (Pemuda Pancasila), the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI) and the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMMI) are holding a protest outside the Malaysian Consulate building today in Pekanbaru, Riau regarding the Indonesian flag printing blunder.
They have approached the compound and almost got into the fence of the Malaysian Consulate building despite the police barricade.
“We demand the Malaysian Consul to meet us and apologize for the flag incident in SEA Games,” Pemuda Pancasila official Patar said.
The police who used riot shields and batons are stepping up protection. They have so far managed to contain the protesters after the latter broke the gate to the building.
As of press time, the demonstration continues.
Patar said that the protest is being held over upside-down Indonesian flag displayed during SEA Games 2017 in Malaysia.
