TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government has asked state-owned contractor Adhi Karya to dismantle the monorail poles at Jalan Rasuna Said, South Jakarta. The instruction is in line with the city's plan to add more road sections there.

"We have consulted this with the KPK and the BPK, as [the monorail poles] are part of Adhi Karya's assets," the City Secretary Saefullah said at the City Hall, Wednesday, August 16.

The ground where the monorail poles stand on will be flattened to street level, so that the Rasuna Said Road becomes wider and can accommodate more vehicles, in hopes of reducing congestion.

According to Saefullah, the dismantling of the monorail poles is also necessary to anticipate for the traffic that will occur when Adhi Karya resumes the light rail transit (LRT) project. The Rasuna Said Road will be passed by trains between Cawang and Dukuh Atas.

The monorail poles were planted in 2004. But the monorail project was never finished.
