TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have yet to announce three new sketches of the attackers of KPK investigator Novel Baswedan. Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Argo Yuwono said that they need to get more information from ‘a witness abroad’. “Upon confirmation from the witness, the technology team will finalize it,” he said yesterday.

The police have only made the sketches of the attackers after questioning some witnesses, two months after the attack on Novel. For comparison, the police issued a sketch of the assailant of IT expert Hermansyah one day after a slashing incident. Argo said that the issue was ‘limited detailed information from witnesses”.

Argo did not confirm whether the ‘witness abroad’ was Novel, who is currently being treated in a Singapore hospital. Novel had earlier said that he did not see the face of the assailant. The brutal acid attack happened quickly and the perpetrators came from behind. “I heard motorcycle sound came near me, but I did not see anything,” said the KPK senior investigator.

Sources said that the police used two methods to make the sketches. First, they hired a paranormal expert who shook witnesses hands before drawing the suspect using a pencil. The police used information technology in the second method.

Argo said that police investigators have questioned three witnesses who had seen the perpetrators in three different locations. The first witness saw a suspicious man wearing a jacket sitting on a motorcycle near Novel’s house. The second witness saw a mysterious man entering a mosque where Novel usually took prayers. The two incidents took place only days before the acid attack. The third witness saw a suspicious individual standing on a bridge near the mosque minutes before the Novel Baswedan acid attack.
